Memorial Day

I was watching 60 Minutes tonight, during which they showed a repeat of a story about soldiers who had been badly wounded in Iraq. It made me angry the first time i saw it and made me even angrier this time around.

These soldiers, soldiers of a volunteer rmy, have been used; used by this administration for the most dubious engagement in history since Vietnam (and Vietnam at least had the threat of Communism, there was no threat of terror in Iraq). It is, as I have said many times before, and insult to their bravery and that of all those whose lives were taken before them in other wars.

We are being led by a delusional ignoramus and it is time for him to go.

Go to your local cemetary, parade, or just at least take a moment and think of these soldiers tomorrow. And fight to get them home.

yes, Virginia...

there really is global warming...and that's why everybody is talking about how we could have one of the worst hurricane seasons ever this year. Or at least, it could be as bad as last year...yeah, some "myth" George...

IN THE MEANTIME...Alberto Gonzales is saying that "Yes, I think we could work out something for prosecuting journalists..." sig Heil! *it's like when I mentioned last blog about how if the NSA has my call patterns, they'll not only see that my mom and I protested, they'll see my sister is a member of the media and if they ever look up my brother who is a broadcast consultant well we're all just totally screwed :p...*

AND...Condoleeza Rice spoke at BC Commencement today and, according to my mother, there were many protesters and several students who stood up and turned their back on her, but apparently many still greeted her with open arms...well, at least applause. As you may have heard, a member of the faculty quit last week in response to the choice of speaker.

And it's moments like that remind the GOP that elections are coming up...

And lastly, speaking of things coming up...I HAVE A GIG! I'll be doing Wuthering Heights: The Musical (yes, you read right) starting June 16th (hence I'll be even lazier about blogging as I have daytime rehearsals..GAH!)

but don't let my inability to keep orgnanized to keep you from EMAILING!! Email, call, write, fax your friends and family, your congressfolk and the press and let them know that YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION!!! and as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

Peace --Alex

and tonight...Sox/Yankees at Fenway. GO SOX! (I like them being in first place...I'd like it to stay that way...and I'd like to think that they'd like it to stay that way too)

KGB at the White House

I mean, we already knew the White House was into wiretapping, but to hear that ABC reporter Brian Ross has had his calls tapped by the CIA since he broke the story about the secret prisons...if not before...good lord, people!

apparently a federal source came to him and said "It's time for you to get some new cell phones, quick,"...

IN THE MEANTIME...if you missed Saturday Night Live this past weekend...or you just want to see it again and wax poetic on what could have been, you MUST see this link...Al Gore...Mr. President...*sniffle...giggle...sniffle*

AND with two of my good friends getting married soon, I thought I would pass this on from the Human Rights Campaign who are trying to stop the Federal Marriage Amendment from getting through. This ridiculous amendment would amend the constitution to make the definition of marriage as of that between a man and a woman. AMEND THE CONSTITUTION...send a card, email, call, write, fax your Congressfolk and remind them that this adminsitration is already playing fast and loose with the Constitution; they need not taint it and their reputations further by agreeing to this amendment (particularly when Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Canada...and Massachusetts have already made gay marriage LEGAL).

That's the short and sweet of it today...

and he's still in office because....

if George is impeached it just gets worse down the line...

Only Dick Cheney has an approval rating lower than W.'s, though W. is catching up as his approval rating just dropped to an all time low of 31%, according to the latest Gallup/USA Today poll.

And there's some poll that my mom heard about that claims that his approval rating is only 21%...

Even Republicans according to a poll I saw on the Today show this morning says that approval ratings from his "base" has dropped 18 points since January from 86% to 68%.

And now there's the CIA number mining...did you see Bush's face as he tried to defend this latest CIA faux pas...he just looked plain cranky. It's like someone keeps taking his toys, which is essentially what is happening...

I'm glad the government has confirmed that yes, I do indeed talk to my mom and sister at least once a day. Scary, I know, but the CIA needs that kind of info...and as they look up my mom's number and look her up, someone will find the photo of the two of us at the Peace March in DC last fall...and then they'll look me up and find this blog and some guy will see "Al Qaeda" randomly written here and we'll be arrested for conspiracy against the government and my sister who can't afford to bail us out will have to come down from New Hampshire in her big red truck and have to bust us out and will end up beating up some jail officer...and this means I am switching my land-line service from Verizon...

IN THE MEANTIME...yet ANOTHER CIA guy is being busted for corruption. While it is uncertain he was involved in the floating hooker poker nights hosted by Randy (how appropriate) "Duke" Cunningham and friends, but apparently he has been involved in contract steering.

I don't think the administration of Warren G. Harding was this corrupt...good lord!

I don' wanna!!!

In Sunday's Boston Globe, there was a little talked of article about how Bush has been ignoring Congress (duh!), primarily by signing statements with over 750 laws that essentially say "if I don't feel like going along with this one, I don't have to..." Arlen Specter and other members of Congress heard about this little article that could, and (for some reason) were SURPRISED by this and Specter wants hearings held in June...Yes, Arlen, he really is trying to be King George...

Among the laws Bush said he can ignore are military rules and regulations, affirmative-action provisions, requirements that Congress be told about immigration services problems, ''whistle-blower" protections for nuclear regulatory officials, and safeguards against political interference in federally funded research.

and I'll bet that this may go along with any legislation that would mess with his newly extended tax cuts...

and speaking of tax cuts and spending, I just heard Bush actually say "It's important to have fiscal responsibility..."

what is this in reference to? Emergency funding for a potential flu pandemic. That's right folks, if Bush actually makes his first veto ever, it would be on emergency funding for a pontential plague..

IN THE MEANTIME....Just when you thought the Taliban was gone from AfghanOsamaBinForgottenstan, it appears that they are gaining force...

AND...after the Surpreme Court debacle, it appears that the Dems may actually TRY to filibuster a couple of Bush's high level court picks that he's been trying to drive through...I'll believe it when I see it frankly...

speaking of seeing something to believe...if you have not gotten links from you friends for this...and you can't find it on YouTube as they apparently removed it due to "copyright infringement" Here are the transcript for Stepehn Colbert's nothing-short-of-brilliant turn at the White House correspondent's dinner AND proper video (thank you Fred)...Colbert made everybody giggle and then twitch just a little...and rightly so...more power to him!

Send him some love over at Comedy Central and then KEEP E-MAILING!!! Email call write fax your friends and family, the press and your CONGRESSFOLK and let them know that you are paying attention!!! and as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on! It's been working on the price of gas, on immigration and on hearings-they're all at least TALKING (and may actually get to the DOING of things)...and heck Karl Rove is sticking strictly to politics now, so they are obviously picking up on the noise, so keep it comin' :) And don't forget to support your local Democratic or Independent 2006 Congressional candidates!

Peace --Alex
