Three things...

First, before I get into the history of the day...

I should have posted about this when I first found out about a week and half ago, but have let myself get too focused on getting resettled back here in the city...

Please say a prayer, hum karma, send out healing vibes to the family and friends of my Omaha host Ryan Guinn. Ryan was killed in a motorcyle accident mere days after I returned here. I only met him the once, but he proved to be one of those well-raised good guys...I raise a glass to you Ryan.

Now on to the main news of the day.

Last night the first black/mixed race man in our country's history claimed the Democratic nomination for president. If Hillary could have claimed it, it would have been the first woman. Either way, it is and would have been a momentous occasion in our country's political and cultural history. If Hillary is offered the VP position, and she accepts it...well then I think the collective GOP's head will explode.

Personally, I think Obama ought to offer it and that she should accept it because a) they have a better chance at winning and b) the nightmare campaign that McCain's ilk will hurl at Obama is one that I feel he is not ready for...and Hillary knows how to deal with all the crap that has been thrown her way and c) the combination of their experience is ideal.

Now, to all the women who said they'd vote for McCain if Hillary does not get the nomination, this is for you.

ARE YOU HIGH?!?!

For those of you who have only read my blog about my trip in April (the transcribing is coming along), before I was able to work on that, this whole blog was started as a place for me to rant about our present administration. And right now I have to rant about our present campaign...

Look, I have been a Hillary supporter, mainly because I think she is a) like Eleanor Roosevelt - nobody liked her either but that woman worked HARD and did right, and b) as I said earlier, could definitely take McCain in November as she knows and can handle the evil that will be flung at her...I fear Obama will not be able to handle the nightmare the conservative right has awaiting him...not yet. I really wish he and Hillary were one person some days...

IN THE MEANTIME...there are a large number of angry women out there - my mother is included among them - who said that they would not vote for Obama should he get the nomination. Unlike my mother, some of these women are angry enough that they will actually vote for McCain instead...to which I can only reply with a "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!?!?"

Look I can understand you being upset, particularly after what has to be the longest, most grueling and perhaps nastiest campaign since Andrew Jackson's days. But to actually decide to throw your vote toward a man who not only contiues to support the war in Iraq and wants to keep us there, has been pretty consistent in his voting along with Bush's policies, and has indeed said that he would turn over Roe v. Wade if he could is just complete delirium in my mind. Don't let post-campaign trauma break you! Particularly as there is another option for you: WRITE IN HILLARY.

You don't want to vote for Obama? Fine. But don't waste your vote and actually potentially send McCain (Bush Lite) to the White House. WRITE IN HILLARY instead.

or perhaps by voting time, if it comes down to Obama and McCain, you might want to just unite with the party and vote for Obama anyway. (did someone just throw something at me?) just sayin'...

And speaking of uniting, remember that there is still this slight chance at an Obama-Hillary ticket, so you may not need to worry about this at all :p (we can only hope)

In the meantime, KEEP PAYING ATTENTION!!! Enjoy this historic moment in politics, breathe...and do NOT vote for McCain!
