if you wanna watch the speech tonight...

you're going to have to watch ABC as apparently (at least in Boston anyway) the other networks are NOT carrying George's speech tonight...

AND...apparently George made a surprise visit to the Washington Nationals game Sunday. Laura must have had a headache or something as she wasn't at the game...but Condi Rice was *whip crack!*...

George speaks to the people...

Yep, George is going to try to talk to the people tonight, and ease our worries about Iraq. The only time he does this, as he does like to avoid things like press conferences and addresses cause he has to, you know, speak in full coherent sentences intelligently rather than just saying "No, see, I'm the President and...uh...I know what I'm doin'...I got real good people here and uh...you're just gonna have to trust me on this...right Dick?"

*okay just got busted dancing to Aretha Franklin's Rock Steady at my desk...but there is a line in the song that George and his people out to think about: "say what it is..." particularly to Chris Froheiser who lost his son in Iraq and has been struggling with why ever since...I can't get the full New Yorker article online (so go out and get the mag!), but this Q & A with the writer might give an idea...)

And speaking George speaking, he will be at a military base tonight, proving that he is indeed the king of blatant photo ops and meticulously arranged public appearances...and I'm glad to see that more and more, people are calling him out on it...Bob Schieffer had this to say this past Sunday...

And speaking of folks calling George out...John Kerry has something to say about what George should be saying tonight...

And speaking of calling folks out...Keith Olbermann had something to say to Karl Rove (evil genius)...

And speaking of Karl, George and the Administration, one must go to wonkette for the "tit for tat" section...what starts out as a wonkette trying to clear up an Ed Klein quote, turns into a great chart of "If you" do this "you can't..." do that...

IN THE MEANTIME...I do highly suggest sending George a message and let him know juuuust how out of touch he really is. And then you can KEEP E-MAILING!!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press, and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!!! And as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

After that, give yourself a chuckle by checking out pics from the Mermaid Parade which was at Coney Island this past Saturday which I and the rest of my posse of Valkyrie Mermaids attended as well as Billionaires for Bush who went as the Coney Island Yacht Club this year. It truly is a wonderful event and I think is rather well described by this line from a song by Michael Franti recently played on the radio: "All the freaky people make the beauty of the world..."

Doctors, Generals and Mermaids

The cover of Newsday here has a picture of Donald Rumsfeld looking like he's just about to say about to say "F***!" And I have a feeling that after the report in the NY Times and other papers about how doctors-giving advice about raising stress levels etc-aided interrogators at Abu Ghraib (among other places), the Administration may be feeling the same way...

Doesn't help to hear, contrary to Dick Cheney's comment about the insurgency being in its "last throes", the head guy in Iraq, General John Abizaid saying that the insurency's "overall strength is about the same"...*Dick Cheney was later heard on CNN to growl through clenched teeth "If you look at what the dictionary says about throes, it can still be a violent period," I'm gonna throttle that guy, I tell ya. He's not sticking... with... the script...fucker...oh wait was that on the air?*

And speaking of the war, I'm sure you've been hearing for some time about how, as part of "No Child Left Behind" there was this little provision that asks schools to provide student information to the Pentagon...And schools supposedly HAVE to tell parents that they can ask that their child NOT be called about recruitment...but not all are doing it...if you have a child in this age range, or know of someone who does who does NOT know about this fiasco, you might want to pass this on to them...

And speaking of passing things on...I realized that Fox News and Bill O'Reilly's site do NOT have mailing addresses avaialable on them which, when trying to send a pacifier to Bill may be difficult. Well, if you hand't dug it up already, the mailing address for Fox News Headquarters here in NYC is:

Bill O' Reilly
c/o Fox News
1211 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10036

Yeah I plan on getting a pacifier out to him this weekend :)

And just could use some good news...All the e-mailing and nagging appears to have worked as PBS will NOT get a cut in funding!! YEE HA!

And also, if you find yourself at Coney Island tomorrow afternoon, check out the Mermaid Parade!! And look for the Valkyrie Mermaids (spears and all) woo hoo!

All right, it is a summer Friday and I am leaving earlier than usual for an audition but as you try to get the "Kill De Wabbit" theme out of your head, KEEP E-MAILING!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk. It worked for PBS and apparently is making the White House twitch, so keep it up and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!!! and pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

do I hear yodeling?

Donald Rumsfeld today said that we shouldn't set a time table for pulling out troops as Iraq is "not a quagmire" and we can somehow win this.

Unfortunately for Rummy, General Abizaid, the head Commander in Iraq, declared this afternoon in what some have described a heated hearing over Iraq, that the "insurgency is not weakening" and he basically had to beg to differ with Rumsfeld's cheery outlook on things. Ted Kennedy suggested that Rumsfeld step down from his office and other Republicans declared their own concerns about how the war is being run...

cause I did indeed say...

that there would be more later.

Anyone here see Mars Attacks? *show of hands?* remember how, as the hero drove the truck through city streets blaring the sweet sounds of yodeling, all the aliens' brains blew up? I see this happening with conservatives right now. First Bill O'Reilly, and last night, it was Karl Rove (as stolen from wonkette)...

RNC Ad Endangers U.S. Troops in Iraq
Yesterday at a GOP fund-raiser in Manhattan, Karl Rove explained that Dick Durbin's remarks about detainee treatment at Guantanamo Bay are "putting our troops in greater danger" because Al Jazeera "now broadcasts [his] words to the Mideast."

Today, the Republican National Committee released an ad called "Wild Thing." And guess what? It features Dick Durbin's remarks about detainee treatment at Guantanamo Bay. The same words that are putting our troops in greater danger, and yet the RNC is emailing the ad to "15 million grassroots supporters" and posting it at GOP.com, where terrorists, Al Jazeera producers, and the liberal saboteurs who want to undermine this great country of ours and put our troops at risk have access to it! Is it time to put Ken Mehlman on the Noodles Jefferson diet? — GREG BEATO

and this from my friend Walter...

I think they're gettin' a little desperate, don't you?

Bill O'Reilly is a big baby...

The polls are down, the people are angry and the ratings are down at Fox, hence it's all Air America's fault...at least that's the problem according to Bill O'Reilly who doesn't want to blame his slipping ratings and Bush's crash in the polls on things like, you know, Iraq, Congressional corruption and White House ignorance. NO it's Air America's bunch of "clowns" who are "undermining" the war.

He then hurled this accusation at Air America Radio: "So, all those clowns at the liberal radio network, we could incarcerate them immediately. Will you have that done, please? Send over the FBI and just put them in chains, because they, you know, they're undermining everything and they don't care."

Bill's head exploded shortly thereafter, hence Fox will show "The Best of Bill O'Reilly: The Shut Up! Factor" until they are able to piece it back together.

Stephanie Miller asked on the air that a cranky congressman be sent pacifiers for his behaviour. I think Bill needs one too...how many do you think we can get sent to his office, hmmmmm?

This is all my sleep deprived lack of focus can handle right now other than CALL YOUR CONGRESSFOLK TODAY AND MAKE SURE THEY SAVE PBS!!!

More later...

Frist: Will He? Won't He?

So the Dems have blocked the Bolton vote and Frist at first was like "I won't fight it. I won't push for the vote. If the President feels he wants to got for it, that's his decision" Well a few hours later, it appears he got sent to the principal's office because he comes out of a meeting with the President and suddenly he's like "I WILL push for a vote on Bolton, darn tootin!"...

IN THE MEANTIME...there's a full moon people and it's offically the summer solstice so things are a little crazy...
Bush apparently went out to defend his Iraq strategery yesterday to members of the EU..according to wonkette this quote was included (please see accompanying photo and commentary at wonkette): "I think about Iraq every day. Every single day, because I understand we have troops in harm's way." *but, dude, what about all that "progress"?*

One should also go to wonkette for the blip on Young Republicans trying to get other young republicans to enlist...as long as it isn't them...

And yesterday, Rep. Hostettler apparently shut down business on the House Floor, not for anything decent like "margarita Mondays", nooo, he decided to say, as they were debating an Air Force bill that would keep abusive religious sermonizing in check (thanks to an incident with a particularly zealous Air Force officer), that Democrats are Anti-Christian and essentially have nothing better to do than to "demonize" Christians (SATANIC SECULAR BIBLE BURNING BASTARDS!!!). A Democratic Rep said "Um, those statements should be taken down" which I have learned essentially is like getting written up...

In the latest corruption file: a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee apparently has been appropriating a lobbyist's really nice yacht...among other things...

AND...did you know that the PBS monitor that Kenneth Tomlinson hired actually worked for conservative groups (gasp!...yeah that's a shocker)

Just a loopy time we live in...so KEEP E-MAILING!!! E-mail, call, fax, write your friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are paying attention! and pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

Porter Goss actually KNOWS....

where bin Laden is. Or at least, he claims to have an "excellent idea" or where the man is, but due to "weak links" in the war on terrorism and "US respect for sovereign nations" (yeah, I can hear you go "WHAT?!?!?!?" from here at my desk), we are unable to go in and get him.

Now I want to know 1) how long has Goss has this "excellent idea" of bin Laden's whereabouts 2) Did he tell George and his people that he had an "excellent idea" of where bin Laden was and 3)what is the difference between invading one "sovereign nation" where a) there were no WMD or threat of terror and b) going into a nation where bin Laden actually is and we supposedly have the support of the government in the war on terror and they could help us actually get the guy? I'm just thinkin' out loud here...

IN THE MEANTIME...speaking of the war on terror, a new report has been issued saying that, at present, the FBI people that are heads of counterterrorism apparently "lack experience"...our President ought to know about all about that...

And just now on the radio, apparently George has said, to dispute criticism of Guantanamo, that any reporter can go on in and see the place for themselves *can you hear the mad scrubbing of the floors, the clean-up of the detainees, wound care, make-up, sudden menu change, the removal of Christina Aguilara CD's, etc* PLEASE tell me that someone made an appointment today to check out Gitmo? Perhaps you want to urge your network and local reporters to take George up on the offer....*is there also perhaps scrambling at the White House with his people goin' "he said what?!?!?"*

Perhaps George made this offer out of mild frustration over all the articles about how the people don't really care for him right now and that his power appears to be "ebbing"...

And it can't help that, as the Dems continue to filibuster John Bolton, a report has come out declaring that since Bolton left his last job, thinking his nomination was a slam dunk, policy has changed and uh...things are actually getting done now...

Or that it's come out that Phil Cooney isn't the only one doctoring things...apparently, a witness for a major federal tobacco case was told by the Justice Department flunkies to soften his testimony or be removed from the witness list..

So as George has a temper tantrum in the Oval Office, let's give him a little more reason for it with Joe Biden, the Dem who has actually not been mincing so many words with George, has essentially announced that he would like to run in '08...

All right, the clock is running out here at work but, don't let that keep you from E-MAILING!!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are paying attention!!! And as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on...

Friday, June 17, 2005

WHAT? I can't hear you!!!

This is essentially what George and his people have been saying for months (years) and we got further proof of this today with the latest NY Times/CBS poll. Bush's approval rating has plummeted to 42%. And as he goes around continuing his grave attempts at pushing his Social Security plan, 45% of folks polled said that the more they learn about his plan, the less they like it. In the meantime:
"Nicolle Devenish, White House communications director, dismissed the significance of the poll, saying Mr. Bush believes that following polls is equivalent to a dog chasing its tail. "We have advanced a broad agenda, and will continue to advocate the people's priorities," she said."

Um...cause this poll can't possibly represent the people...

And speaking of the people being misrepresented, have you been to Ohio lately?...

And speaking of Social Security (which, according to said irrelevant poll, didn't make even the top 6 of the people's concerns) I think a rumble's gonna break out in the House...

IN THE MEANTIME...Remember Paul Cooney, the guy who altered government environmental reports in order to talk down the effects of Global Warming? Well, he may have moved on to Exxon, but there are still plenty of other administration toadies who have put pressure on G-8 reps, having them "delete language that would detail how rising temperatures are affecting the globe, set ambitious targets to cut carbon dioxide emissions and set stricter environmental standards for World Bank-funded power projects..." Okay, we got a stolen election, we got Downing Street, we got pressuring G-8 negotiators to alter their information, WHERE THE HELL ARE THE CONGRESSIONAL IMPEACHMENT PEOPLE?!?! BILL CLINTON GETS A BLOW JOB AND WE GOT PEOPLE UP IN ARMS but NOW? What the hell more to we need? TAPES?!?!?

At least the Senate has got something to say about the administration's energy bill...

And please send some love to John Conyers as yesterday he had his say and presented petitions including 560,000 signatures of Americans who want more info on the Downing Street Minutes:

"Rep. John Conyers of Michigan and a half-dozen other members of Congress were stopped at the White House gate when they hand-delivered petitions signed by 560,000 Americans who want Bush to provide a detailed response to the so-called Downing Street memo."

stopped..at..the gate...it's not like this is some freak on the street. This is a respected Congressman with a valid inquiry and he was stopped at the gate. perhaps you ought to send a note tot he White House, too.

All right, time to actually do my job for the last hour of this summer Friday, but not before I say KEEP E-MAILING!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are paying attention!!! and as always pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

Thursday, June 16, 2005

For real?

It looks like it'll be a busy day in Washington (and one of those days that leads George back to the bottle). Who knew?

John Conyers actually made NPR this morning as they announced his "unofficial hearings" about the Downing Street Minutes. And he actually got a space at the Capital. He couldn't get large room (James Sensenbrenner has yet to pass the keys he swallowed yesterday), but Conyers was able to get a small room and will use the DNC as a spillover space. Take that, Sensenbrenner..

And Conyers ain't the only one up at the Dome talking Iraq. Apparently there will be a special committee meeting discussing a US exit plan. Various representatives, senators, pundits and activists have been asking about this for a loooooong time, but it took Walter "Freedom Fries" Jones, R-NC, to make it news.

And Rham Emmanuel (D-IL) apparently will be on the House floor today reading the names of all 1,700 lost soldiers.

And the House, while they may be trying to gut PBS and NPR, actually have blocked the provision in the Patriot Act that would have allowed the feds to check your library and book buying activities...

And Arlen Specter is the latest to speak out against Gitmo...

And Lindsay Graham (R-SC) apparently has been quoted saying that Bush "ill-prepared the public for the trials and tribulations" of Iraq and that the "sour mood" of the public has been "infecting" the GOP even...hence Bush, according to Dan "puppet-boy" Bartlett, rather than spend a leisurely summer travelling to strictly coordinated, invitation-only events to talk about Social Security, will be working ("working? what do you mean 'working', Dan? I got brush to clear...") to "focus his message" on Iraq and the economy.

And speaking of Social Security, apparently the GOP is stuck in a rut, they don't have the Republican votes to get the proposed plan through, and some are even blaming Karl Rove (evil genius). It's even getting to the point of a particularly unflattering photo of Rove with the article...

And speaking of evil genius...Iran apparently has admitted that okay, yes we've been playing with plutonium production...

And just to throw George over the edge...porn star Mary Carey, a proud Republican, had this to say about the RNC dinner she attended the other night (according to wonkette and MSNBC):

CAREY: I think they can drink just as much [as porn stars]. There were some really drunk guys by the end of the night. I was getting propositions to have threesomes with wives or mistresses. I was offered money from oil tycoons! I mean, it‘s pretty exciting. I didn‘t take any money and I didn‘t do any threesomes, but it was pretty—I was just surprised. I thought everyone would be stuck up and no one was going to like me. And everyone loved me and got drunk and took pictures with me. So I want to keep going to Republican events. I‘m a fully converted Republican now.

There may be some offended, there may be others who see what wonkette and I sadly see: a recruitment poster for the GOP.

So while you ponder the posters of the buxom Carey reading "I WANT YOU! for the GOP!!" appearing on college campuses...KEEP E-MAILING!!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!!! and as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on..

TIME TO NAG THE PRESS!!

Yes, it's time to play our favorite game, NAG THE PRESS! John Conyers was going to hold hearings in Congress tomorrow about the Downing Street Minutes, but James Sensenbrenner said "Nope! Nope! [locking doors and swallowing keys to all available conference rooms in the Capital] There's no room [swallows key] here! Nope, we're full [closes door] up!" The hearings will be held at the DNC now...(shall I mention that Conyers got 542,000 signatures for his letter to the President?)

And did I hear about this on the morning shows? Noooo... In the paper? Noooo...I got a call from my mom who heard about it on Stephanie Miller who saw it SOMEPLACE ON THE NET and got calls about it. I think it's time to nag your local and major networks about WHY the hell they are not covering this...yet STILL talking about Michael Jackson...good lord!

IN THE MEANTIME...

Yesterday I mentioned how the President of Pakistan has apparently had activist Mukratan Bibi kidnapped for voicing her opinions, and today, the NY Times has an editorial to go with it, mentioning that perhaps, oh just perhaps the US ought to rethink this relationship.
"There is nobody more dedicated in the protection of his own people than President Musharraf," Mr. Bush said [at a December press conference].

And speaking of the Prez and his not paying attention...George has spoken about Guantanamo, Dick has spoken about Guantanamo, and now it's Rummy's turn to say "Oh no, we can't close Gitmo. Are you crazy? As long as we have this war on terror, we gotta have a place to put these guys. Where the hell else are we gonna put these terrori-I mean detainees? They're not stayin' at my house, that's for sure, ha ha ha!"
"I don't know any place where we have infrastructure that's appropriate for that sizable group of people," he said. "The United States government, let alone the U.S. military, does not want to be in the position of holding suspected terrorists any longer than is absolutely necessary..." so maybe we could send the innocent ones, ya know, HOME?

And speaking of terrorists...here's a great headline about the guy who actually attacked us: "Taliban Chief: Bin Laden Alive and Well"

And continuing in the "things george just isn't working out..." Apparently, North Korea really doesn't want to give up those nuclear weapons (you know, actual weapons of mass destruction)...

And in the "things George doesn't want to hear" category (which generally covers a lot on this blog), today and tomorrow there will be three events held by Gold Star Families for Peace and Military Families Speaking Out asking the administration to discuss the Down Street Minutes...They'll be hanging out by your door, George...

And it makes me wonder if George would consider these people "obstructionists" like the Democrats. As of course, the Democrats are singleminded, nay-sayers who are out of touch with what the people of the country really want and need and...oh wait a second...
"This is not leadership," he scolded, speaking in a vast hall at the Washington Convention Center that was bathed in blue light. "It is the philosophy of the stop sign, the agenda of the roadblock, and our country and our children deserve better." um..George?...oh wait you don't read the paper and don't pay attention to the polls...or the people for that matter but maybe that's just me..

Oh and George, I think you left some children behind...

And as we hear more about the fate of PBS and NPR, I am just waiting to hear from George and his people about the dangers of Sesame Street. You KNOW someone out there is saying that Oscar is a cranky gay pedophile, you KNOW there is. I just want to hear their reasonable explanations against teaching children tolerance and the importance of the letter N. And as for NPR, well we all know that the administration has issues with the free press..

And speaking of free press and freedom of speech Congress is, according to on AP article "scary close" to a ban on flag desecration..

Hence, I ask again for all y'all to KEEP E-MAILING!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the PRESS (please do that TODAY!), and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!!! and as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

Peace --Alex

Tuesday, June 14, 2005

FINALLY!!

The Michael Jackson case is over...okay not quite as we will have "analysis" for the next few days at least...so maybe, maybe we'll get to things like, you know, Iraq and the economy and all that...or perhaps we'll have some other sensational story to give more time to the White House website scrubbers...

IN THE MEANTIME...When the country has not been fixated on Michael Jackson walking, or the kidnap situation in Aruba, there actually has been NEWS about the Republicans "eating their own". I mean, come on, when you got the guy who created the terms "Freedom Fries" and "Freedom Toast" saying that we oughta get out of Iraq and Republican Florida Rep. Martinez says we oughta close Gitmo, well, can't you just smell the GOP barbeque?

Of course, Cheney, through eternally gritted teeth, has declared that there are no intentions to close Guantanamo and apparently is defending the torture-I mean, "treatment" of detainees there.
"Now, does this hurt us from the standpoint of international opinion?" Cheney said at the National Press Club. "I frankly don't think so. And my own personal view of it is that those who are most urgently advocating that we shut down Guantanamo probably don't agree with our policies anyway." *"and...why...can't...these people...LISTEN..to me?...I'm in charge, don't they understand that? grrrrrrr..."*

And speaking of not agreeing with certain policies, a Pakistani activist has been kidnapped cause she dare spoke out about honor killings and rape in her nation, built schools, and a battered women's shelter, leaving Pakistan's President Musharaff "very unhappy with her".

And speaking of being very unhappy, it looks as if the Dems might actually be doing something about the Downing Street Minutes...perhaps you want to give them a nudge about this? I keep hearing little blips about setting up an investigation and then poof it's gone again...AND the Supreme Court went pretty much down party lines when clearing a death row inmate who had declared that racism was involved in the jury picking...did I mention that this was in Texas?

And I am sure some folks have GOT to be unhappy about the HEAT here in NYC...but the one advantage to being at work is that I am in AIR CONDITIONING (and thanks to my friend Jeff, a big Chinese fan for when I am not) so besides not being sweaty without good cause, here's some other things to be happy about:

If y'all find yourselves in NYC this weekend, starting Thursday, I'll be part of a dance performance with live music (singing as, well you just don't want to see me dancing). The Christopher Caines Dance Co. has a beautiful piece called Tenebrae being performed at St. Marks-On-The-Bowery, featuring the music of Tomas Tallis including his 40-part motet (yes 40 individual parts) Spem In Alium, The Lamentations and If Ye Love Me. I['m only singing on the Thursday night performance but really think this'll be something to see...

http://us.f1f.yahoofs.com/bc/420a2430_31f3/bc/Mail+Attachments/CCDC_Tenebrae.jpg_best_to_mail?bf0uvrCBiNASJRV4

AND I'm doin' the cabaret again for ONE NIGHT ONLY, Sunday July 10th at The Encore. Come On Down!!

All right, back to the phones I go, but before I do, you know I can't leave without telling you to KEEP E-MAILING!!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends, family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!! and as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

we're hearing that "I-word" again

Apparently, on Stephanie Miller this morning, they brought up how there is a group of military families calling for impreachment of George. I know that Veterans for Peace were calling for impeachment back in April, so this may be that story OR, it could be a whole new group, presently not covered by the press (yeah what else is new). I'll tell you though, when I tried Googling this story (typing in "military families trying to impeach Bush"), there were over 204,000 entries for that topic.

At Salon you can see how Ralph Nader is looking to impeach as well.

And while it was claimed that John Kerry was going to ask for impeachment on the Senate Floor, it has been clarified that he "never" said that...but you know he could...

AND apparently there is a House committee looking to investigate the Downing Street Minutes, starting on June 17th. Haven't seen anything on this in the regular places I peruse, but then again, it's a short day too, and I haven't had time, hence I urge looking this up and heck just getting in touch with your Congressfolk and checking up on this yourself :)

And speaking of checking up on things...you might want to check up on your local PBS station and thow as much money at it as you can as a GOP led House subcommittee pretty much is out to wipe it out having voted to severely cut funding...and of course it has nothing to do with retaliation..no never...

And speaking of apalling things...there is yet ANOTHER report declaring that the FBI screwed up with 9/11 info...this time missing 5 opportunites, including tracking two of the hijackers when they entered the country.

All right, that's what i got for ya today before heading out early for summer Friday, but before you head out to your summer happy hour, KEEP E_MAILING!!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press, and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are paying attention!!! and then pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

Wednesday, June 08, 2005

They think about this NOW?!?!

You know, we all occasionally have made rash decisions that we regret later: a bad haircut, harem pants, fast food, sociopathic signifigant others...but they do not affect federal law...Apparently, as the confirmation of Janice Rogers Brown looms ahead, some liberals are goin' "maybe that filibuster compromise was not such a good idea..."

And if George was the type to pay attention to polls rather than the voices in his head (ralph wiggam anyone?), perhaps he would be rethinking the whole Iraq thing...according to the latest from ABC and the Post, 52% of the nation believes that we are not safer, think the casualty cost of the war is not worth it, and they are "losing patience with the enterprise"...Perhaps pictures would be better...*(knock, knock, knock on George's head) Hello, McFly!*

And speaking of things George is ignoring...This goes in the "cocky bastard" file. Like Nixon not erasing the tapes, Phil A. Cooney, a guy who's been fighting those pesky enironmentalists for years, according to handwritten notes on fed approved climate research reports, "removed or adjusted" facts regarding links between pollution and global warming and emissions...and never shredded the evidence...*"oh no one will ever find that..."*

And I'm sure he does not want to hear about how the Army, even after lowering their recruiting for May, still fell short...

And we all know George is standing there, hands over his ears saying "BLAH BLAH BLAH I can't hear you!" to Jimmy Carter who, yesterday, at a speech at the Carter Center in Atlanta, became the latest to request that Guantanamo be shut down.

Yeah I figure he was doing that to Tony Blair through much of their discussions of Africa and "what'll ya give me for unswerving Iraq support?...Wait, that's it?!?!"

Speaking of Mr. Blair, did anyone see the Today show this morning. Katie Couric actually asked him about the Downing Street Memo, how he was quoted in the memo as saying "the case was thin" for a war in Iraq, and did he perhaps help "embellish" the evidence to help gather support? He had a fairly pat answer as I recall saying essentially "why would we ever do that?" And then the topic was done. Okay, Katie can you go ask George about this now and then get more from Blair on this? Please...anyone else up for the job? Anyone? Anyone?

IN THE MEANTIME...some of the scariest news to come out of Florida since the election..Katherine Harris wants to run for Senate. And gosh darnit she'll do it. She can fix her own election!

Okay so after all of this, you might need a chuckle, and nothing says love like a feel and some football. Yes, Cologne, the German host city of the World Cup is arranging "sex huts" near the grounds as, despite their having a proper Red Light district, "there just won't be room for parking"...

All right, back to the phones I go as well as to the potentially migraine inducing work of trying to learn music to a 40-part motet. Yes I'll be singing the alto part in "chorus VII", singer 32, in an event celebrating the 500th birthday of composer Thomas Tallis...cause you know, singing in Chinese for NYCS was not enough.

So while you try to keep from thinking about Chinese motets, KEEP E-MAILING!! E-mail, call, fax, write you friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!!! and pass it on, pass it on, pass it on...

TEASE!

All right, we got a big tease yesterday cause, as far as I could tell, Kerry didn't say squat yesterday and for all we know, he wasn't going to anyway, BUT you know, it can't hurt to nag him about potentially doing it anyway... (yesterday's "Today in Congress"...)

At least somebody got out there and said something...At a fundraiser yesterday, Hillary Clinton apparently went as all out as a Senatorial and potential Presidential candidate can against the GOP...

IN THE MEANTIME...

A new ABC-Washington Post poll reiterates what we've known for a long long time..George is not paying attention to the people, just his own agenda...hence he's not paying attention to this poll...

And speaking of things he's trying to ignore...Tony Blair is in town...and he wants a little payback for his war support among other things...and then there's Darfur...and the economy...and how the certain members of the GOP are actually worried about ethics now...and that judge that said to Christine Gregoire "Why yes, you are indeed governor of Washington...stop pouting, Rossi" oh and this article about Exxon (thank you Fred!)

though I'm sure he's real proud of the Texas governor who signed a bill AT A CHURCH...and the Supreme Court giving more power to the Feds about medical marijuana...*wasn't there something about avoiding "big government"? oh wait, I forgot which administration we're under...*

Thank God there's Bill Moyers. He spoke at the recent Take Back America conference in DC...

So take some inspiration and KEEP E-MAILING! E-mail, call, fax, write, your friends and family, the press and your Congressfolk and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!!! And, as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!!

Kerry and the Memo...

Apparently, according to a story at Raw Story and brought up on Stephanie Miller this morning, John Kerry will bring up the Downing Street Memo on the Senate floor...and perhaps also mention impeachment...

I suggest giving him a nudge to make sure he doesn't wimp out...

Ben Bradlee...

I was watching the Lehrer News Hour last night and caught his interview with former Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee. The guys who were implicated, went to jail or just looooooved them some Richard Nixon (Chris Closson, G. Gordon Liddy, Pat Buchanan) have called Mark Felt a criminal rather than a hero. When asked by Lehrer if he felt that Felt was a criminal as well he replied with the question "Where's the [criminality] in it?" - "Well, he went to the Post before going to someone in the government-" Yeah, cause, as Bradlee pointed out, everyone he would have talked to WAS INVOLVED. Suuuure Felt could have gone to the President. *"Mr. President, I've heard some...things...floating around about...some rather nefarious activities involving that break-in at the Watergate Hotel. I've written a report, sir..." Nixon takes the report from him, reads a little, puts it down. "Interesting, Felt. I'll take a look into this. Thank you." Felt leaves the Oval Office, Nixon makes a phone call "We have a problem..." Felt ends up dead from a mysterious stapling accident at his home office the next day...*

IN THE MEANTIME...

Speaking of Presidential nefariousness...The Downing Street Memo. You heard about this? Yeah, cause you all pay attention. Has this been on the news? Not so much. Well, John Conyers (I love him), wants the President to discuss this memo and let him know that we are concerned about this and want an explanation. Conyers needs 100,000 signatures and presently has 86,000 (make that 86,002 as I just signed for myself and my mother). Head over to Conyers website and sign up yourself...and then e-mail or call the press about this as SOMEONE should be talking about this, don't ya think?

As we continue in this vein...Yesterday, it was noted that George, as he met with the head of South Africa, did call the situation in Darfur genocide (Wow he talked about DARFUR!), and then said oh and by the way we are not doubling our aid to you as it "doesn't fit our budgetary process". Okay, anyone else want an explanation of THAT excuse? *1) our deficit's big enough 2) If I help you, I have to help everybody 3) Have you HEARD about Iraq? What a mess, we're gonna be there forever! Some people just don't know how to accept freedom, I tell ya 4) you know I can't promote contraception. AIDS only comes to sinners 5) Bob Geldoff is having that new concert, Live 8 I think it's called, kinda clever huh? he'll help ya out...etc etc etc*

And speaking of lame excuses, the White House and the military are gonna be coming out with several I'm sure as we hear more about the Army's inability to recruit for Iraq...I want them to tell these parents WHY they should encourage their children to join the Army and get sent to Iraq...

Newsflash of the Day: Every once in a while you get some headlines where you just go "duh!" such as today's in the NY Times: "Bush S.E.C Pick is Seen as Friend to Corporations".

And while Bush takes on another yes-man, and prepares to throw a whole bunch more into the judiciary, at least someone is talking back. Amnesty International found it offensive that George, Dick and Don thought their calling Guantanomo "the Gulag of our times" was a bit strong...

Speaking of talking back...KEEP E-MAILING!! E-mail, call, write, fax your friends and family, the press, and your Congressfolk and The White House and let them know that you are PAYING ATTENTION!! And as always, pass it on, pass it on, pass it on!

Where's our Mark Felt?

Please tell me that someone in the FBI, CIA, West Wing, etc is cracking and ready to be the "Deep Throat" of our generation? People have been comparing the Bush and Nixon administrations from the get go, but a "friend" has yet to pull Woodward, Bernstein or anybody saying "hey, I gotta story..."

Or perhaps there have been numerous folk who have come to the media and the press, now more jaded and desperate to keep a foot in the door of this closed White House, have just looked at them goin' "Yeah, right...you crazy bugger. I'm not going there. Now what can you tell me about Michael Jackson?..."

Perhaps it's time to e-mail your local paper and the networks about this, hmmmm?
