Our Lady of GWB...
Over the past couple of days there have been more reports about "Bush's Women"...all of them being "strong minded", "outspoken", much like the women surrounding W. during his youth AND then these women also have this one odd trait: a fierce devotion to George. If you ask me, that's a reason right there not to confirm Harriet Miers, but, it's not for me-or anyone else with any sense, it appears-to decide. Though what is highly amusing is that the Republicans are actually crying "cronyism!" for the first time. It started with Mike Brown, with a Senator claiming that witht he hring of Brown to FEMA, Bush proved that he chose loyalty over qualifications. Um, yeah...have you LOOKED at his cabinet? He's been doing this from the get go...but only now are the Republicans all cranky over this...cause Bush didn't really choose one of their own.
Miers has many points on her side: urging the bigger law firms in Texas to take on pro bono work, often siding with workers and poorer folk in some of her law cases while at one of the largest corporate law firms in the state, volunteering herself and urging her fellow lawyers and those at other firms to do the same...
But then she also, after becoming a born-again Christian, switched from the Democratic Party to Republican, gave $3,000 to the Bush campaign and $5,000 to the re-count fund in 2000, and became a stalwart devotee of George W. Bush. And if she, as constantly quoted by the White House, follows his "judicial philosophy", then we got trouble right there.
George picked this woman cause she is loyal and has no paper trail, and hopefully the Dems will put up a fight on this one.
IN THE MEANTIME...Tom DeLay is fighting mad...and has new charges leveled against him...
Clinton hit Louisiana and looks, you know, presidential...
and Iraq still rages...remember them?...they supposedly have a referendum coming up and Bush's people I'm sure are trying to ignore the fact that the violence is getting worse and the Sunnis are still pissed...
AND if you missed Bill Bennet-morality pundit and gambling addict-making yet another ridiculous (biggoted, positively frightening yet not atypical of his ilk) comment that the White House has had to distance itself from, here's the scoop on that...
And after all that, I still ahve to answer phones here, send much love and positive energy to The Red Sox as after last night's...what I'll call "sacrifice" game...they MUST WIN TONIGHT 9and the rest of the damn series against Chicago as we must give the Yanks a rematch...and must humble them again :):):)
